I am currently reading a wonderful book perfect for this 4th of July season. It is called Chains by Laurie Halse Anderson [anyone out there read it?], and it takes place during the American Revolution. The story follows a slave girl named Isabel and her sister Ruth on a harrowing journey for freedom. It is heartbreaking and eye-opening, and I will finish it this weekend, with tears in my eyes and gratitude in my heart.
Reading this story reminds me of the sacrifice and blood that was offered on our behalf, and that we must treasure our freedom daily. I am grateful to live in this blessed country!
