On Tuesday's post about classical music in the movies, Sarah commented that she liked the music to the movie "The Holiday". That made me smile, because I was going to mention that movie as well today. Do you remember the scene when Iris and Miles go to rent a movie and Miles is so passionate about the music to the movies? Remember? He mentions one movie in particular, The Mission and the score by Ennio Morricone, and how inspired he was by the music in that film. Miles was right, the music in that film is beautiful and inspiring.
Today's song is the theme song to The Mission,
Gabriel's Oboe
written by
Ennio Morricone
On iTunes, there are about 140 albums featuring Ennio Morricone, the man is a legend. The album I have which features Ennio's music is "Yo-Yo Ma plays Ennio Morricone" and it is wonderful. It includes these Morricone classics that I love;
- the themes from The Mission
- the themes from Cinema Paradiso
- the themes to Once Upon a Time in America (my favorite is "Deborah's theme")
- the themes from Moses
I love this music, and hope you enjoy it as well.
